A healthy and delicious start to your day, this home made bircher muesli consists of rolled oats, lemon juice, yoghurt, honey, fresh fruit and nuts.
A good friend, Greg Fraser, passed this recipe on to me many years ago, and now my wife Sam makes it for me almost every day.
It is very simple and good for lowering cholesterol levels. You can have any fruit you like with it; we tend to have fresh berries in summer and either poached quinces or pears during the rest of the year.
A really good yoghurt, such as a sheep's milk yoghurt, will make the muesli taste even better.
Best butcher muesli I have ever made! Tastes exactly like in the resorts :) thank you X
whoa yum yum! thanks x
i agree it tasted great
i found this recipe too tart. i'd cut back on the lemon juice.
This muslie sounds delicious and will try it on the weekend. Does anyone know how long you can keep it for once it's made?
love the fact you dont have to add juice like most of the bircher muesli i have seen ...just made it now,so full hehe thank you
Yes there is a lot of letting it all hang out in here. Didn't realise people were THAT passionate about their breakfast and their slave duties. I reckon that perhaps there is a big lot of baggage hanging aroud the surface some of you scratched up there. Keep scratching for entertainment''s sake!
hahaha i just read all these posts- holy cow jane you got a beating! i dont even know if the museli is nice yet, but this is the funniest read all day! thanks jane
Yum, so good with raspberries and/or mango too in summer!! I feel so healthy after eating this.
I can't believe you would be so narrow-minded as to criticise someone for making breakfast for their husband. Who cares what a true feminist does, Jane? Genuine, intimate and lasting relationships are built on loving and being loved, on giving and receiving - not by refusing to contribute in case you get labelled 'a 1950s housewife' by some Random in a chat room. More to the point, this is a great recipe. Thanks for sharing it!
Adding a few sultanas is yummmmm also.
Add shredded coconut too... yum
Great recipe been making it for ages and i just LOVE IT!!!Well done Neil, thanks - Jane..get over yourself!
Love this muesli. Thank! I even added a few pumpkin and sunflower seeds for some extra crunch :)
oh ive had this t hotel Buffet breakfest and have only dreamed to make my own..thanks i will give it a go...is it fattening? trying to wath what i eat....
and jane - i make my husbands breakfeast and my childrens every day..and then when they have finished and ive stopped buzzing around getting my Miss 8 ready for school..My husband then makes me Breakfest.. whats the big deal who makes who breakfest.. ??? good words Nick!
Get real Jane! A true feminist chooses to live her life the way she chooses, not by adhering to the notion that she must be out there working some high flying corporate 9 - 5.
Corporates do 7 am. to 8 pm.
this is a reaally yummy recipe, Jane just chill out
Your wife makes your breakfast everyday? It's not 1950 you know!
Maybe she actually likes to do it. Get off your prickly pear! Some people like to do nice things for each other.
Have you ever heard of love? Maybe she loves him and they have a life you envy! Jane your the type of woman that should have been a man!
My husband MAKES ME breakfast every morning. A delicious drink of mango, yoghurt, LSA seeds, light soy....yum yum. Are you jealous, Jane? Who cares who makes breakfast; I can imagine that the delectable Neil Perry would be cooking most of the main meals; and I'd be all for that too!
How much lemon juice do you need for this?
I watched you and your wife make the Bircher Muesli and I made it the next day, It was THE best Bircher Muesli I have every tasted. Thank you for showing people that recipe. Susanne from Brisbane
This is simpler than some other recipes for Bircher muesli, but it is one of the best - maybe because most of the ingredients are added just before serving? Very light, delicious and one I will be making regularly!
Love it Yum
