An Original Anzac Biscuit

An original recipe provided by Mr Bob Lawson, an ANZAC present at the Gallipoli landing. Source: Australian War Memorial


  • 1 x cup each of plain flour, sugar,rolled oats and coconut

  • 4 x ounces butter 115g

  • 1 x tablespoon treacle (Golden Syrup / Cockies Joy)

  • 2 x tablespoons boiling water

  • 1 x teaspoon bi-carbonate soda


  • 1.

    Grease biscuit tray pre heat oven to 180C.

  • 2.

    Combine dry ingredients.

  • 3.

    Melt together butter and golden syrup.

  • 4.

    Combine water and bi-carbonate soda - add to butter mixture.

  • 5.

    Mix butter mixture and dry ingredients.

  • 6.

    Drop teaspoons of mixture onto tray allowing room for spreading.

  • 7.

    Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden.

  • 8.

    Allow to cool on tray for a few mintes before transferring to cooling racks.
