Deep Fried Camembert portions served with Quince Verjuice Sauce

Check out how to make this delicious and easy meal from Week 1 of Come Dine With Me Australia Series 3.

Ingredients

  • 2½ 125g rounds of camembert cheese

  • 1 cup plain flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • 1½ to 2 cups breadcrumbs

  • 100g quince paste

  • 1 tbsp verjuice

  • Rocket lettuce to serve

  • Light crisp bread to serve (optional)

  • Oil for deep frying

Method

  • 1.

    Cut each full cheese round into six wedges.

  • 2.

    Beat eggs with milk.

  • 3.

    Coat each cheese wedge in flour.

  • 4.

    Dip in beaten eggs then coat with breadcrumbs, chill 5 minutes then repeat egg and breadcrumb process to achieve thick coating. Chill until ready to deep fry.

  • 5.

    Prior to frying cheese, place quince paste in a small saucepan, add verjuice and stir over low heat until melted and combined, keep warm until serving.

  • 6.

    Heat oil. If oil starts to smoke it's way too hot, turn off heat and wait a few minutes. Place cheese wedges in oil and fry until golden brown, around 30 seconds. Place on paper towel to drain.

  • 7.

    Arrange three cheese wedges on a bed of rocket with crisp bread (if desired), spoon quince verjuice sauce over cheese and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep cheese chilled before and during crumbing process to avoid potential mess.

I have watched Come Dine with me for years: both Uk & Aus, but this menu is the best I have ever seen. Yum Yum Yum.
