Baked Apples with walnuts

Try Yolanda's Baked Apples with Walnuts from Week 3 of COME DINE WITH ME AUSTRALIA series 2.

Ingredients

  • 7 gala apples
  • 1½ cup of crushed walnuts
  • 1½ teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 table spoon of brandy
  • 14 whole cloves

Syrup

  • ½ a cup of sugar
  • ¾ cup of water
  • Juice of a quarter to half a lemon
  • 2 whole cloves
  • Half a stick of cinnamon

Method

  1. Pre heat oven to 180 degrees
  2. Wash the apples and cut in half, cutting off the stem
  3. Using an apple corer remove the middle core
  4. Place the apples face up in a large enough baking dish to hold all the apples
  5. Combine the sugar, walnut, brandy, lemon juice and cinnamon in a bowl and mix. Spoon the mix on top of each half apple
  6. Stick 1 clove in each half apple

Syrup

  1. Combine all ingredients in a pot and boil for 3-4 minutes
  2. Pour over the apples
  3. Bake for 45 minutes
  4. Serve with ice –cream or alone
