Fennel au gratin (Finocchi gratinati)


This is one of my favorite way to eat fennel. I think is just delicious and a perfect side dish for fish or meat.

Method

  1. Trim and clean the fennel.
  2. Bring water, milk, lemon juice and salt to a boil in large pot.
  3. Add the fennel and let it boil, covered until tender (20 to 30 minutes depending on size).
  4. Preheat the oven to 200C.
  5. When the fennel is cool enough to handle, cut it diagonally into thick slices.
  6. Place them in one layer in a battered baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle them with the parmesan and dot with the butter.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until the top is golden.
  9. Serve Hot and Enjoy!
