Fennel au gratin (Finocchi gratinati)

This is one of my favorite way to eat fennel. I think is just delicious and a perfect side dish for fish or meat.

  • 1.

    Trim and clean the fennel.

  • 2.

Bring water, milk, lemon juice and salt to a boil in large pot.

  • 3.

Add the fennel and let it boil, covered until tender (20 to 30 minutes depending on size).

  • 4.

    Preheat the oven to 200C.

  • 5.

When the fennel is cool enough to handle, cut it diagonally into thick slices.

  • 6.

Place them in one layer in a battered baking dish.

  • 7.

Sprinkle them with the parmesan and dot with the butter.

  • 8.

Bake for 15 minutes or until the top is golden.

  • 9.

    Serve Hot and Enjoy!
