Mutton Curry


Turn a cheap cut of meat into something special with this curry.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp Melted Butter
  • 30ml Cooking Oil
  • 2 Large Onions, Finely Sliced
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick, Broken
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 tsp Allspice
  • 2 Cardamom Pods
  • 1kg Mutton Pieces (washed and trimmed)
  • 1 Large Tomato, Halved and grated, discarding skin
  • Salt and Peper as desired
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Paste
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger Paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Coriander

Method

  1. Heat butter and oil in a heavy based pot. Add onion, cinnamon, cloves, all spice and cardamon.
  2. Braise until well browned. Add Meat. Cook for 30 min. Then add Tomato and remaining Spices. Cook on medium heat for about 1 hour or until meat is tender.
  3. Add Garlic and Ginger Paste. Then add 1 cup of water and simmer for 10 min.
  4. Serve with Rice.
  5. Garnish with Fresh Coriander.

Notes & Tips

Many people generally serve a curry with rice. I love to serve this with a hot bed of creamy mashed potato.
