Caramella

Caramella

Cold rich creamy dessert. Very easy to make. Just you need to prepare it ahead to let it set few hours in the fridge before serving. Very long time ago, about 20years ago, my friend’s mom made this for us, it was so tasty, I took the recipe from here and made it so many time since then, and every time everyone just love it. It’s great for all times, especially for a hot summery day.

Serves 8 to 12

Ingredients

  • 4 packets cream caramel powder
  • 2 sachets Dream Whip (Powdered dessert topping mix)
  • 250gm Thick cream (in arabic: qeshta)
  • 1 ½-2 cups Milk
  • 1-1 ½ packet Marie or Morning Coffee biscuits (or any brand like those)
  • 2 packets caramelized sugar (the ones in the cream caramel packet)

Method

  1. Using an electric mixer, combine: cream caramel powder+ Dream Whip+ thick cream (qeshta) + ½ cup milk. Beat very well till it thickens and increases in volume, about 10minutes. Add more milk while mixing if needed, about ½ cup maximum.
  2. In a square or rectangular 3inch deep dish, arrange layer of biscuits to cover the bottom. Sprinkle with milk using a spoon, about 2 teaspoons on each biscuit.
  3. Pour half the quantity of the cream mix over the biscuits in the plate, level the surface.
  4. In this step, you need to dip each biscuit in milk and then arrange on top of the cream layer till all cream is covered (in this step, never arrange the biscuits then sprinkle with milk like first layer).
  5. Pour the second half of the cream mixture over the second layer of biscuits.
  6. Cover plate with plastic wrap. Keep in fridge for at least 3-4 hours or overnight.
  7. Before serving, dip the caramel sugar packet (sealed) in cup of hot water to soften the sugar. Cut the tip corner of the packet, very tiny cut, and drizzle it over the cream. Cut and serve.

Huda: This sounds so delicious! Dr.Oeckter whip could be substituted for dream whip, or you could just use whipping cream but stabilize with cream of tartar or icing sugar. My problem is the caramel powder. I'll have to search around. Could I substitute a liquid caramel flavouring?

ooo really ?? you don't have there cream caramel powder ??? the liquid caramel flavour won't do the trick !! cz it's what makes the cream caramel, not the liquid caramel sugar!! I'll ask my friend, she's here now, but she lives in Australia, i'll ask her what you have there to substitue the powder an let u know. maybe if you can send me you e-mail so i can mail you what i will find..

thanks for posting Huda! Sadly I have doubts we can get Dairy Whip, cream caramel powder or even the caramelised sugar sachets here in Australia... perhaps some of our American cooks/chefs can offer substitute ingredients (or what to look for in the supermarkets).
