Caramel Dumplings


Caramel Dumplings

I love these and they are very quick and easy to make. Most of the ingredients are usually at-hand so they can be whipped up anytime you have a spontaneous dinner party.

Serves 4 to 6

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self raising flour
  • 125g butter
  • 1/3 to .5 cup milk
  • Syrup
  • 1l water
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/3 cup golden syrup
  • 30ml lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest

Method

  1. ‘Rub’ flour into butter until not lumps are left.
  2. Stir in milk with a knife to form a soft dough.
  3. Form dough into golf-ball sized balls.
  4. Combine syrup ingredients in a large saucepan.
  5. Stir until sugar dissolves and syrup comes to a boil.
  6. Add dumplings and place lid on saucepan.
  7. Reduce heat but ensure it continues to boil.
  8. Cook 12-15 minutes. Serve warm with cream and ice cream.
