I love these and they are very quick and easy to make. Most of the ingredients are usually at-hand so they can be whipped up anytime you have a spontaneous dinner party.
‘Rub’ flour into butter until not lumps are left.
Stir in milk with a knife to form a soft dough.
Form dough into golf-ball sized balls.
Combine syrup ingredients in a large saucepan.
Stir until sugar dissolves and syrup comes to a boil.
Add dumplings and place lid on saucepan.
Reduce heat but ensure it continues to boil.
Cook 12-15 minutes. Serve warm with cream and ice cream.
