Pear and Chocolate Self-saucing Pudding with Vanilla Ice-cream

Mel’s dessert recipe from week 3 of Come Dine With Me Australia.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • Tinned Pears in Juice
  • 125 g plain flour
  • 125 g caster sugar
  • 25g cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp bi-carb
  • 150 soft unsalted butter
  • 2tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs

Method

  1. Blend together everything but the pears
  2. Place the pears in the bottom of a greased pie dish and pour the combined ingredients on top
  3. Put into the oven for 20 minutes at 180°C
  4. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream

    THIS was just delicious! Very rich and I couldn't taste the pears at all...which is okay because I don't really like pears. Ha Ha...however, I'm baking it again tonight after poaching the pears in a combo of their own juice, red wine, orange squash, cardomom pods, peppercorns, and bay leaves...just to see if it adds a kick...but seriously, this is my new favorite chocolate craving fix. Thanks Mel!
