Jula’s Beef in Red Wine served on Mash with Green Beans

Julie's main course recipe from series 1 of Come Dine With Me Australia ...

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg beef
  • butter/oil to cook beef
  • 10 small onions
  • 120g bacon pieces
  • 250g mushrooms
  • garlic
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 500ml cab sav
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 1 tsp sugar, salt, pepper
  • 10 potatoes
  • butter, cream

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C
  2. Heat oil and butter in a pan and brown the beef
  3. Put the meat aside then add whole onions, cooking until lightly golden brown. Add the bacon and sliced mushrooms. Once all cooked, set aside with the beef
  4. Cook the crushed garlic in the pan, then add flour. Once brown, add the wine and stock then stir through sugar, salt and pepper. Stir sauce until boils and thickens
  5. Put the meat and bacon into a casserole dish then add the wine and stock sauce. Cook for one hour on 180°C, then add the onions and mushrooms and cook for another 30 minutes
  6. Boil and drain the potatoes then add the heated cream and butter to mash.
  7. Boil the beans for 5 minutes
  8. Serve the casserole with mashed potato and green beans on the side
