Should a diet necessarily include dessert? Nutritionally we don't need them; a piece of fruit is probably the best option. But sometimes it's nice to end a meal with a little something special and sweet. Is this just conditioning or is our body asking for something?

I think yes.... After the meal seet dish is must for me..But ya i also need to control fats, so as you said fruit slice is good option..And ya sometimes some other dishes like ice cream etc can be had but all in control..

I very rarely eat dessert, as much as I love them. Last night was an exception, just simple watermelon with a Kaffir Lime and Ginger syrup. I'd made Laksa Lemak and decided that the watermelon would carry the Asian flavour. It worked well. Now of course I'm dreaming of Sticky Date Pudding, or a bread and butter custard made with leftover Hot Cross Buns (I did that a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely) and I still have a couple of buns frozen. Hardly diet food but as I said, I don't indulge that often.

I'm a believer in moderation for everything.
I eat until I first start to feel full, and then I quit.
I never fill my plate to access.
I try very hard to eat healthy (I have my Mama living with me, and she loves the frying pan and lots of desserts. She gets right out of sorts if I don't eat the desserts. :~((
I don't eat desserts that often unless it is fruit.
But I don't think the odd treat of something rich hurts either.... for me it would be once or maybe twice a month, no more, and only one helping.

I'm not attracted to real sweet treats, and get migraines when I eat chocolate, so that puts a limit on dessert.

Hi Charlie, how sad that chocolate gives you a headache. Have you tried carob pieces or powder. It is a chocolate substitute you can now get in many supermarkets or health food stores. It is not as sweet as chocolate but a good substitute to try.
My favourite dessert is apricot fruit crumble with either custard or cream (really any fruit crumble is okay). You can make it as healthy as you like by using oats instead of the flour and reduce or replace the sugar to your taste. Keep on cooking. Nurse.

How about yogurt with berries & bits of dark chocolate? Or you could also add some almond slices?
