take one jar, cleaned of course.
4 vanilla pods split and scraped into the jar.
add 250 mls of rum, bourbon or vodka.
tighten lid, place into the back of your store cupboard for 12 weeks then presto, the best vanilla extract. So much better than store bought. And yes the alcohol doesnt smell at all once ready for use.

Iv done both rum and vodka, my preference is Vodka. No taste at all but vanilla.
