Born in Melbourne but raised by the beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, one of the reasons a career as a chef appealed to Peter Evans was the lure of surfing all day and working at night. After opening his first restaurant, Pantry, in Melbourne’s bay side suburb of Brighton in 1993 with his brother David and his brother’s best friend, Daniel, Pete moved to Sydney in 1996 where the team established Hugo’s in Bondi, Hugo’s Lounge in Kings Cross and Hugo’s Bar Pizza. The latest addition to the group is the waterfront Hugo’s Manly which opened in 2008.
Pete is a regular at cooking schools and food events around the country. He has written two cookbooks, “Fish” and “My Table” and has worked as a TV presenter on both The LifeStyle Channel and Channel 9.
Pete, how about showing a bit of compassion to the contestants on MKRs? They are not professional chefs, they are only cooks and they do their best and get that smug look off your face when you tell them that their food is s**t.
One of my favourite chefs!
I always laugh when you judges crititise the contestants for using packaged pastry. I have never made my pastry from scratch. I have always used the packaged stuff and most of these cooks who have their own TV shows always says to use packaged pastry as it is more conveninate to use.
Drunken Noodles? I have never seen a drunk noodle in my entire life yet. It would be very interesting to see one though.
I agree, you he seems get off on it. Sikko! Maybe it's cos he can't cook. People who critisize harshly are usually hopeless at what they are critisizing, it kind of a drag them to the gutter attitude.
I would like to hear Pete Evans rip off a big loud fart on the next MKR as I would think that it would be very funny.
I bet he would have had a smug look on his face when he did that, especially if it stunk.
hey pete you are sssssssoooooooooooooooooo hot call me 0465778923
When MKR was on, I used to laugh at the way you always critisied your contestants for using packaged pastry. When you are on a time limit you don't have the time to make it from scratch and if you noticed most of the top chefs who are on TV use the package pastry as well.
I don't like the smug look you get on your face when you tell one of the contestants on MKR that their food isn't up to scratch.
I too didn't like the smug look he got on his face when he told someone that their food wasn't good either. He could have at least used a bit of tact as he knew that they weren't professional chefs and don't have the experience in the kitchen to what he has. If I was on that show, then I would have both been very hurt and embarrassed by his comments. Don't forget that Twilight wasn't one of the judges on MKR. He/she was just making a comment.
At least those comments that Twilight said made sense. I couldn't make head nor tail of your comments.
yeah aye maybe you should be a bit nicer when you tell them that there cooking is ... witch is priety much what he said to me and then i got kicked off the show you mean barsad
Pete, you wore this beautiful blue shirt this week on MKR - who dresses you and where can I get one !!
Evening Pete, You have an excellent personality. It is a shame that you break a sentence down to two words then (break) then continue the sentence then (break) then another word... then break. The elongation of each sentence and each phrase when you are on camera is so unnatural in a general speech style it makes you sound silly when you are not. To Adopt....... the usual...... 'reporter style'......emphasis..... for.... EACH word... to stretch and...... make impact this way is.... a tad irritating!
i totally n agree
Pete, I cant believe your comments sometimes on MKR I think it's quite funny how you are a little to critical. Surely you have a dish that you cant master. Your not the only one that knows about food just because your a chef.
Hi peter you are a inspiration! Would love to meet you?
I thought that Donna and Reade's pie looked very nice and yet you said that it was lousy. I would like to see you cook something up in a short time under all that pressure.
Peter: You have me absolutely spoiled. When I want a fish recipe I come directly to you. Love your recipes and the simplicity of them. Keep them coming!
I am enjoying MKR as well, although I do think that your comments are very harsh at times. These people are not professional chefs so don't judge them as such as they are doing their best.
Peter, thank you for the attitude you showed on the 'Australian Masterchef' duck cook off. You are a winner. (series reshown on tv1 today 12 feb 2011, in New Zealand) Arthur.
Peter you're a ....... And a BIG one!
I agree.

Hello Pete, I am really enjoying MKR very much. I wish you would go the extra mile seeing you are in front of an audience so often and learn correct table manners. It would be so much more attractive to watch. Otherwise well done.
Pete has great manners :) I think you are just very anal....

Hi Peter, I was at the Good Food & Wine Show over the long weekend in Melbourne. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet personally but you came over to the National Food/Dairy Farmers Best of the Best Pizza Challenge stand. Jacqui asked if I had some left over dough to give to you. I was very surprised so I hope it was up to your standard. I came over to your stand a couple of times throughout the weekend to come and say hello and sample your "pizza" but didn't have any luck with meeting you. I look forward to maybe one day bumping into you whilst dinning at one of your restaurants. Cheers Mel from Adelaide - South Australia
