Jamie Oliver

Celebrity Chef

Restaurants and cooking are in Jamie Oliver's blood, having grown up around the successful pub/restaurant owned and operated by his parents in Cambridge, England. At 8 years old, Jamie was peeling potatoes and podding peas with the rest of The Cricketers staff and by 11, he could julienne vegetables as fast as any of them. At 16, Jamie completed his formal training at Westminster Catering College.

A fresh face in the culinary world, Jamie Oliver began work at the critically acclaimed River Cafe in London for three years. After appearing on television as part of a documentary on the River Cafe, Jamie was called the next morning by five of the top production companies in England. Jamie went with Optomen Television to produce the first series of the enormously successful Naked Chef. He has since gone on to produce Oliver's Twist and multiple specials.

In addition to his TV shows in Britian and America, Jamie has writen the bestselling The Naked Chef (Hyperion), The Naked Chef Takes Off, Happy Days, and Jamie's Kitchen. He's also food editor for British GQ magazine, a columnist with the Saturday Times Magazine, and monthly food editor for Marie Claire magazine in the UK.

Now 27, Jamie continues his work as consultant chef at Monte's, an advisor for top British supermarket chain Sainsbury's, and design consultant for quality cook and tableware for Royal Worcester. In 2001, Jamie took his live cookery show on the road: His Happy Days Tour packed theatres in Cambridge, Bournemouth and London as well as in seven cities in Australia and New Zealand. Jamie's cooking is even in demand by the British government: In 1999, Jamie was invited to 10 Downing Street to prepare a lunch for the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who was entertaining the Italian Prime Minister.

Most recently Jamie opened a not-for-profit restaurant, Fifteen, with the goal of training young unemployeds to work in the kitchen and on the floor. The London restaurant has become a hit.

Jamie's passions are pasta and breadmaking. He still travels through London on motorbike and plays drums with his high school mates in the band Scarlet Division, whose sound Jamie likens to a mixture of "Catatonia and Texas with a harder edge."

Jamie married his childhood sweetheart, Jools, in 2000. They live in London with their daughters Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo.

I feel so sorry for poor Jamie. He is doing his best in the US to get the kids to eat more healthy, but is alway hit by a brick wall. I think that those people on that committee are just stupid old farts and should be booted off and replaced with younger people who have more understanding with the situation. Good for you Jamie for not giving up and I hope you will get your message through soon. I think that you are great and keep up the good work.

Hey Jamie....love ya work hun... Folks have bought themselves a small Home made pasta cafe down on the beach here at Wanthaggi, victoria...Rite Near Phillip Island which is fairly well known i think...Anyways any tips on how to boost business for my folks--the foods great..mum knows how to cook, although dads become the gnocchi artist....people are diving for miles wkly to eat the food or buy to take home...Its just not well knows...have had some locals that have lived here 20 odd yrs and had never seen the place b4 our flyers went out...Its keepong itself open, just not doing what i know that it could be if the cafe was out on the street instead on being in the arcade with the smallest of four supermarkets we have in the area....Anytime ur down this way...please come have some of dads gnocchi ( it'l be on the house for you and the family, the kids will luv it...just like my little boy does...Moved here the start of the year with my boy, actually living nextdoor to my folks ( seen the show Everyone Loves Raymond?...well thats my life...lol )...just want to try pick things up b4 they sell....i know it has potential, the food is great, just need to get more known round the area i guess.....

HI Jamie, I have watched many cooking shows and different chefs creating and teaching. Many are good but I love the way you make cooking so much fun and keep it simple yet reeeelly tasty. I also like the way you prepare and presnt your food. Very user friendly and unpretencious yet still classy. At the ripe old age of 53, I've just started my own small catering business. I want to keep it simple fresh and tatsy. You continue to inspire me and many others!! Keep on going please!

I tried to buy Jamie's new recipe book called Jamie's 30 Minute Recipes, but I can't get it any where as of yet. It must be very popular over here. I have been watching his show on TV and he makes a lot of nice things and I would really love to buy his book, at the moment I can't get it. They have all his other books, but not that one. Hopefully soon it will be available again.

Hi Jamie I've lived in England, Australia and Canada and I have to say that your cooking transcends borders. I still have two of your cookbooks that i bought in Hampshire - the salads are brilliant here in Australia. I enjoy your show, I enjoy your approach to cooking. It all makes me happy.

I really LOVE your cooking Jamie; particularly your Cook Books - I've bought them for my First Grand-daughter, who also loves them! I particularly love your courage to try to change the way people THINK, as it's not easy. You make a good role model for the young ones, but not only them, as the older ones are also fascinated in how to make healthy food popular and simple for their Grandchildren so that they'll have a GO. You're very inspirational in your creativity and commitment. Thank-you Jamie!

I really enjoyed Jamie's Christmas special and he made a lot of nice things. The only thing is I live in Australia and Christmas falls in Summer here so Christmas can get very hot here at times. When it gets too hot we either have cold meats, seafood and salad or we have a BBQ.

Great combinations. Pomegrant salad a dream. Great TV show, but please ,please scrub your finger nails and get a manicure. In real life I'm sure they are washed, but on TV everything is magnifoed and your hands are always close to the food and need to be spotless otherwise it detracts from what you are doing.

I too have been watching that food revolution show in the U.S and I am also shocked that the kids didn't know what vegetables were as well. He held up a bunch of tomatoes and this kid didn't even know what they were. Sometimes I feel that he is flogging a dead horse trying to get these people to eat healthy as they were bought up on junk food so no wonder there are a lot of people who are overweight. Some of them don't even want to try it. I was bought up on fresh food and veggies and I only eat junk food on a very rare occasion. Hopefully he will finally be able to get through to them and they will see the light and eat more healthy.

I hope you mean mince and not mice. You could try some BBQ sauce or check out your local supermarket to see if they have any smoky BBQ sauce or you could try a pinch of smoky papprika to see if that works as well.

I live in Australia and we have just had a full month of Jamie here on Foxtel, I have not missed an episode of the whole month, if I couldn't watch it I recorded it. Both my husband and I think Jamie is a wonderful chef, when my 2 children were growing up they never knew what junk food was, as even though I worked fulltime when they were little I always made sure they had healthy meals, so it is wonderful to see that Jamie is helping others to see the benefits of healthy eating, here in Australia we have such an obese problem that it is so good to see someone trying to help people see what eating healthy is like, keep up the good worg Jamie, we have just heard here that your wife is pregnant again congratulations to you both and keep up the good work that you do. All the best to you and your family from a very big fan from down under Nerroli

I think it was appalling how that radio announcer treated Jamie! Keep up the great work Jamie! Don't get down on yourself. Don't ever doubt for a second that you aren't doing great things. There are not enough people in this world that want to give their children good healthy food. I'm a single mother who works full-time with two children. My son is 10 yrs. old & my daughter is 7 yrs. old. From day one I've always tried to teach them about the importance of nutrition. When I was with my husband I used to get opposition from him and from his father & stepmother. I stood up to them & asked them not to give my toddler junk food. They didn't like it but I didn't care. Now today that same toddler, which is my oldest child, eats healthy food & enjoys it. He likes the odd treat but generally he eats well for his age. I always strive to make them a variety of foods in their lunch & always try to cook with real food for supper. I try not to buy already packaged/processed foods that are "quick". My kids love fruit & vegetables. My son eats bran flakes, vegetable juice, he's even tried prunes, he loves fish & the list goes on. I'm proud I made a stand when they were young even with opposition. Please, please Jamie keep up your awesome work with those children. Even if the adults don't get it, the children will!

I like Jamie Oliver and I think that he makes a lot of nice dishs. The only is, when he tastes he food, I wish he would use a spoon instead of dipping his fingers in to try it as that is so unhealthy. I have also noticed that on some of his latest shows, he is starting to drop the F word at times. Leave that kind of language to Gordon Ramsay as I think that it suits him the best. Jamie is a bit like the boy next door so please try not to be a copy cat but keep up the good work and i will look forward to more of your shows in the near future.

I'm still enjoying all of your books and have tried most recipes, my friends love to come for dinner to see which Jamie Oliver meal they are going to get next, i know, i know, i should be makikng up my own ideas but hey, why mess with the tried and true ones. We are hoping to get over to England in the Summer of next year and i hope that we get the chance to come to Fifteen for a meal. Much love and RESPECT to you and yours. OMG! I cant believe it Nigella Lawson has more fans than Jamie! Well you two are personally both my favourite chefs, you both cook from the heart, with a real passion and appreciation for food. And I just adore your scooter, so much that I'm actually buying a similair one myself, I just love the idea of riding along with a big bunch of celery sticking out of a brown paper bag! :)

The comments I get are amazing and their is one friend that never stops asking 'when am I going to make it again'. You are amazing and I loved your show on TV in New Zealand last night 25/4/09 when you made a Filo pie with Potatoes, Eggs & Asparagus - I'm going to try that one when they have some in Supermarkets again. Keep on keeping on Jamie - your one in a million!!

I like Jamie not only for his fantastic recipes & passion for food but also for his passion for people & the great thing's he has accomplished. He is so humble & never really let fame go to his head, being a great chef is not only how well you cook or how many restaurants you have under your belt, it is also about staying true to yourself & giving back to others. Jamie does this with such poise & he has never lost himself. That's what makes him stand out to me. Sorry I left a major word out there.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"aside, I wonder what Rachael thinks of Gordon Ramsey's looks or any of the many other great chefs of the world. As far as I am aware, good, average or bad looks have nothing to do with how well chefs cook or present their work on television. Jamie Oliver is well known and respected for his philanthropy work with the under-privileged and disadvantaged youth. The words "ugly man" may not apply to Rachael Johnson, however, shallow and ignorant certainly do.

I absolutly adore Jamie's cooking. He reallyy loves his food and knows a lot about his food. Especialy when he gets his ingridients fresh from the garden. He travels around the world to learn about different countries different recepies. I'm an oldfashioned cook, I was brought up in Hungary where we had freshly cooked meal every day. Mum and I used to go to the market to get all the fresh fruits and vegetables and I loved it and still do. Jamie get his from his own garden. Nothing can be better than that.Love Your cooking, love Your recepies, and love watching Your shows. U beat Gordon Ramsay to me, Your here with us everyday people, he is only for the rich and famous. Thank You Jamie!!!!

    December 2008

I think jamie oliver is an inspiration not only to apprentice chefs/ chefs, but to the nervous, or maybe confident home cooks, and he shows that there is alot more to experience with food than just eating it. I have all of his books so far and I have learnt a lot of new things in every one. I totally dis agree with Rachael, you obviously do not kno anything about the excitement in cooking. It is a real pity because you are the only one missing out, and i think that is a very unfair and rude statement, although everyone has there own opinion it does not need to be like that. If you dnt like him dnt get on here, and talk ***.

YOU ARE RIGHT - HE DOESN'T BELONG ON TV WITH HIS FILTHY MOUTH - HE HAS NO RESPECT FOR ANYONE - NO MATTER WHERE HE IS, HE CAN'T KEEP THAT FILTHY MOUTH OF HIS SHUT. IF HE HAD ANY SELF RESPECT, HE SHOULD REALIZE THAT ANY "GOOD, DECENT" CHEF DOESN'T HAVE TO TALK WITH A FILTHY MOUTH LIKE A SEWER, AND THEN MORE PEOPLE 'MIGHT' RESPECT HIS TALENT IF HE HAS ANY - THE SCUZZY LOOKING BUM DRESSES LIKE A GUTTER RAT - DOESN'T COMB THAT MOP ON TOP OF HIS STUPID LOOKING HEAD NOR MAKE A DECENT PRESENTATION LIKE ANY "DECENT"CHEF SHOULD !!! NOTICE WHEN HE IS COOKING, HE NEVER WASHES HIS HANDS, ESPECIALLY AFTER HE RUNS HIS HANDS OVER HIS SCUZZY FACE OR SCRATHING HIS HEAD !!!

    • Sophie

Goodness what's eating you, he's the most enthusiastic, creative thinking outside the box chef that I've ever had come to know since he aired on t.v all those many years ago. He cooks with such gusto & passion & the way he describes his food makes your mouth water like a river. He must have broke your heart or something along those lines coz I can't think of any other reason to want to talk like that about him. So, I'm sorry but you are so so wrong about Jamie Oliver he's the best chef ever next Nigella Lawson...*Shaking my head & rolling my eyes* at you :-(

I agree with everyone. If you don't like Jamie Oliver, then don't watch him as there is no need to make all these vengeful comments about him. After all there are other shows to watch. You can either watch Gordon Ramsay or if you live in Australia you can watch Huey. He is good as well.

People with small minds dwell everything toxic, and that says to me, exactly what type of person you are!. Jamie is the most amazing Man, so gorgeous and such talent. I pitty the people around you having to deal with your bad energy, I can only imagine what they really think of you. Grow up, and if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Jamie Oliver is the King of Cooking!

Rachael Johnson, you are an idiot. How dare you say such nasty things about Jamie. Firstly, learn to punctuate and write correctly, then maybe we will take you seriously. Grow up you silly little girl.

What is wrong with you? Jamie is a genius and a good cook! Do yourself a favour, go buy some of Jamie's cookbooks, and watch the T.V special 'Jamie's American Road Trip'. Then you will learn to like old school british cooking...

I would be totally embarrassed if you were related. Since my Hubby found `Jamie's cooking my sex life is wounderful and food is good too.

A little sad that the only way you can feel good about yourself is to rip Jamie Oliver down! Perhaps spending some time with a psychologist instead of writing the comment you did would be more a productive use of time. Our kids & I love watching Jamie Oliver - so Jamie keep it up & we thank you! Gins & her girls (New Zealand) .

Rachael is clearly down syndrome, and needs a bag over here head to walk out in public. Please he is so intelligent not only when it comes to his cooking but also his business adventours, he has a genuine interest in helping and sharing his skills and talents with evryone to change the face of a nation. He has inspired me to learn how to cook and eat better. Go find a nice quite spot and die Rachael haha
