Giada De Laurentiis has become a household name. With an impressive background of culinary training and a unique personable charm, she is a globally revered celebrity chef who continues to prove her skill and accessibility not only with her expanding presence beyond Food Network but also with the great success of her cookbooks, brand alliances, newly launched food products and recurring role on the “Today Show.”
Born in Rome, Giada grew up in a large Italian family where the culture of food was a staple in and of itself. As the granddaughter of film producer Dino De Laurentiis, Giada consistently found herself in the family’s kitchen and spent a great deal of time at her grandfather’s restaurant, DDL Foodshow. After graduating from the University of California in Los Angeles with a degree in anthropology, Giada’s passion for cooking remained. She eventually made the decision to commence a culinary career and began her professional training at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, specializing in both cuisine and pastry. Following, she returned to Los Angeles, where her training included positions at the prestigious Ritz Carlton Fine Dining Room and Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in Beverly Hills. She later founded GDL Foods, a catering company in Los Angeles.
Giada’s career start on Food Network began in 2002 when she was discovered by a network executive upon reading an article about her and the De Laurentiis family in FOOD & WINE magazine. Since then, Giada has become one of Food Network’s most recognizable faces. Her half-hour, daytime cooking show, “Everyday Italian,” features quick, healthy and satisfying Italian dishes and airs twelve times a week at both 11am and 4:30pm on FN. Her primetime show,
“Giada’s Weekend Getaways,” debuted in January 2007 and follows Giada to popular destinations in and around the United States as she explores the cities’ most notable restaurants and activities. Giada can also be seen in Food Network specials, such as “Giada in Paradise: Capri and Santorini,” and as a judge on the highly popular series, “Next Food Network Star.” Finally, and with much anticipation, in October 2008, Food Network premiered Giada’s new series called, “Giada At Home.” The show remains true to her Italian roots while also offering viewers a more realistic taste of Giada’s California lifestyle.
The foray into cookbooks was an obvious decision, allowing Giada’s loyal viewership to reference, prepare and share their favorite recipes. De Laurentiis’ first book, “Everyday Italian,” showcases many of the delicious recipes from her cooking show of the same name. Her second book entitled, “Giada’s Family Dinners,” quickly became a #1 New York Times best-seller as did her third cookbook, “Everyday Pasta,” which was released in April 2007. An eagerly-awaited fourth book, “Giada’s Kitchen,” hit bookshelves on September 30, 2008 and debuted at #2 on the New York Times best-seller list in its first week. All four books are published by Random House/Clarkson Potter.
Giada’s overall success and notoriety yielded her a role as spokesperson for Barilla, the world’s largest producer and manufacturer of pasta. Giada took her relationship with Barilla one step further, entrusting the Italian arm of the brand, known as Academia Barilla, to license and produce four products under Giada’s name. The products: Extra-virgin Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, Tuscan Herb Mix, and Sea Salt with Fresh Lemon Zest, debuted in January 2008 and is sold at various gourmet and specialty stores across the United States.
Giada had been a recurring guest on the “Today Show” up until her stint as a correspondent during the 2006 Olympic Games in Torino secured her a role as a contributing correspondent on the nation’s #1 morning show where she highlights current trends in travel, cuisine and lifestyle.
De Laurentiis currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Todd and daughter, Jade.

Hi, I love Gilda's show as well. If I,m not home or out I make sure the programme is taped everyday just so I don't miss out on watching Gilda to get the recipes. Married to an Italian here in Australia, is great to try out the recipes on.
Hi, I l love Gilda's show, but I have one complaint, I watched today's show and am unable to find the recipes. Can anyone help? I appreciate your help.
Hey, her name is GIADA (not Gilda-she was a character played by Rita Hayworth) - and yes, I seem to have the same problems trying to access some of her recipes - don't know what the answer is, just keep trying, eventually they will end up on a website.
Not really my type of cooking but she does have some good recipies which are easy to follow Does anyone else get anoyed when she breaks out in the faulse italain accent or is just me
she is actually italian but you would know this if you knew the family history and the fact she was raised in italy first before going to america.thus the automatic accent as she often reverts back to her first language. i was married to an italian for 19 yrs b4 he died and he was born here but spoke italian at home and often spoke this instead of english without thinking!!!!does that help you?
She IS Italian - she just pronounces Italian words the way they should be pronounced - what's wrong with that?
when my husband gets home from work 3p i make a cuppa and we watch Giarda together some recipes i jot down she makes it so easy for us
She's great-love her recipes. Some are quick and easy for mid-week meals, I have acouple of her quick pasta dishes in my rep now. Pasta with a bacon/tomato sauce and the pasta with the mascapone/mushroom sauce
izzey41
Giarda made a baked chocolate Sforza(?) with roasted sliced almonds on top on a show recently on air here in Australia. I didn't have time to write down the recipe and as my other half is a chocaholic would love it if anyone could supply it for me
wendy-here is the recipe for chocolate sformato(heaven in italian).melt 1 pkt dark choc in bowl over water.in another pot add 2 cups milk,1 cup sugar,1 tspn vanilla extract and 1 pkt gelatin(7gm?)over low heat whisk til lukewarm. in bowl beat 4 whole eggs put 2 ladles full of the lukewarm milk into eggs and whisk gently slowly add back into the pot of warm milk. get a clean bowl and fine metal strainer( i use a fine mesh one)and strain the eggs, milk mix into the bowl.add melted choc from above whisk til dark brown .butter a baking dish and carefully pour the mix into the dishtop with sliced almonds.don't forget that giada used a water bath so put your sformato in the dish into another larger dish and when on oven rack fill the bath dish 3/4 of the way with warm water. don't forget to pre heat the oven 180 degrees and cook about 30 mins or so. my oven is dodgy so sometimes takes a bit longer(electric).you will know after a while of making this. here is the cream giada made to serve with it.whip 2 cups cream add 2 tblspn icing sugar and 2 tablspn amaretto liqueur. hope that helps.lets us know if it goes down well. I usually play around with this sometimes.
I watched a show 2 weeks ago and Giada had a recipe for lamb burgers wrapped in proscuitto but can't find it on line. Has anyone got this recipe?
Hi JM12 its Amira a new member sorry i dont have the recipie but how hard could it really be i think it is as easy as it sounds try - lamb mince add 1 small diced onion salt, pepper, cumin and 1tabspoon bread crumbs combine really well - Taste seasoning as you go to get it right-start with alittle than add as i dont know how much mince you are going to use- form into patties than wrap with proscuittio- use your disired way for cooking and than enjoy i hope to have been able to assist you tell me wot u think amira
I find her recipes are simple and easy to follow. Her description of food makes me want to make it.
i love Giada's show and how she makes her recipes simple and easy to follow. i love the way she makes food seem so yummy.
Hi was wondering does anyone know how many grams her sticks of butter are? And also for the lemonchillo cheesecake how much of each cheese does she use? She often doesn't say how many grams are needed in some recipes.
a stick of butter is 125 gr
HI Amanda i think the sticks of butter is 250grm as for the cheese not sure where its philly or mascapone and that to is 1 tub good luck i hope i could of been some help to you amira

I can't find the recipe for the fried gorgonzola cheese balls and rocket salad that was on the show this week... does anyone have it plse? :-)
I love watching her show every afternoon she gives me great ideas for dinner and the family love what I cook
hello there. I watch lifestyle food a great deal. I love "the best in Australia" especially. But.... Giada!!!!!. I am of Italian decent and she really has NO idea how to cook it. Anyone could do what she does...blindfolded. No wonder she didnt win the "iron Chef" challenge against Rachel Ray. She is totally useless and will never watch her again.
Hi carla its amira a new member Finally someone agrees with me about her cooking she is so plain i dont know wot to call her style not my sort or style of cooking she might think when she breaks out in her faulse italain accent that it cuts it for her very enoying indeed dont you think
if you dont like her dont watch her but most of what she cooks is for anyone who has never cooked italian food but wants to try it, I think she makes it simple so that people can follow what she does, a lot of tv chefs work too fast and you cannot follow.
Hi, new to this just joined. Have been watching the shows and all recipes look fab but I become so eng rossed in seeing them that I forget to write them down. I just bought her last book thinking the recipes would be in there but alas none of them were. all completely new ones. Does she have a book that goes with the series.

I really love all her recipes, they are easy to follow and everytime i make something i get the best complim ents. What also like is that she doesnt rush things on her show like other chefs
Renna, only Everyday Italian is available here. If you go to Amazon.com you can get all her books, and they are much cheaper even with the conversion, just make sure you select regular post, it's much cheaper. I saw the tail end of a recipe the other week and I din't get what it was called, she roasted some kind of meat with porcini mushrooms, and when she completed the dish the meat was so tender she could cut it with her fork, does anyone know what it was called and where I could get the recipe? I have looked everywhere adn can't find it, I think it was on a Thursday afternoon about two weeks ago if that helps? Thanks guys, Sue.
Does anyone know where to get one of the grills she uses?
Try a camping store for a cast iron grill that can fit over your gas hotplates
Are any of her cookery books available to buy in Australia?
Yes, I have been ordering my books through David Jones Carindale Store, Brisbane. My contact persons name is Sue, she is fantastic to deal with, nothing is no much trouble. Was a little disappionted as not all recipes provide a photo of the dish. Phone 07 3843 7444 and ask for the book department, if Sue is not available leave a message and she will return your call. Good luck Margaret-anne Hannah
fishpond.com.au - and they're cheaper too
Do you know what brand of Ice Cream maker she uses on TV?
I am looking for Giada's recipe - the recipe is one of Giada's favourites as a child. Its a sauce (sugo) with a couple of vegetables, elbow pasta. My grandchildren just loved it, but have misplaced the actual recipe........can anyone help

i love all u r food .made some for my family.they love it .i love to have u r books .where can i gey them from///.thank u for all the recepies .
Can I have different kinds of dressings for sandwiches?
Biscotti really needs to be dried out in the oven for a lengthy period in order for them to be nice and firm so they are crisp without crumbling. Also I use an electric knife to cut them into thin slices.
i think her recipes are great, but i tried her biscotti once and they turned out crumbly. Any suggestions?
could you please supply me with the recipe for biscotti as I have been unable to find it. Thank you Maureen
You need to halve the amount of butter that Giada suggests using, I tried the first time and mine were terrible but after cutting the butter content in half they turned out perfectly.
The exact same thing happened to me, I was quite disappointed as this isn't a very economical recipe to start with, but to have it turn out this awful...
