Anne Burrell is a celebrated American chef, TV personality and instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. With years of restaurant experience mixed with passion, Anne's goal is to take the mystery out of the professional kitchen and help everyday cooks add a touch of professional style to their dishes.
Burrell was born in Cazenovia, New York. She attended Canisius College in Buffalo and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1991. A year later, Burrell enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America, eventually graduating in 1996 before moving on to the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners in Asti in the Piedmont region.
After the ICIF experience, Burrell engrossed herself in Italian culture, working in various Italian restaurants for nine months. She worked at La Bottega del '30, a small restaurant in Tuscany with one seating each night which was an invaluable experience for her.
Burrell returned to the U.S. as a sous chef at Felidia, owned by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich and this connection would help her career for years to come. Burrell soon began teaching at the Culinary Institute of America, where she had studied as a student years before. Lidia Bastianich's son and restaurateur, Joseph Bastianich, and Chef Mario Batali named Burrell the chef for Italian Wine Merchants, their New York wine store. The Batali connection further propelled her career towards greatness.
In 2005, Iron Chef Mario Batali asked Burrell to serve as one of his sous chefs, along with Chef and Restaurateur Mark Ladner, for a pilot taping of the Iron Chef America series. She has continued to serve as his sous chef and wows audiences with her creative masterpieces.
Burrell now hosts her own show, Secrets Of a Restaurant Chef, where she reveals the concise, easy-to-master techniques of a top-level chef. By showcasing professional secrets to preparing food that is creative and full of flavour, yet never frou-frou or scary, Anne Burrell translates your favourite restaurant foods into amazing at-home meals.
Anyone have Chef Anne's green apple salad dressing recipe????
you rock..you are the best chef on the food network
Did anyone catch Anne's 'light as a cloud' gnocchi episode? Her recipe states '5 large potatoes', but this is too vague seeing as the ratio of potato to flour must be critical. Did anyone make this and actually weigh out the spuds?? Be grateful for any info on this!
My mother is French/Greek and my father Italian and I'd like to believe that I know alot about food. I believe Anne Burrell is one of the best Chefs I have ever come across. Her knowledge of food and taste is impeccable and she is not afraid to use the no.1 food flavourer, SALT! Anyone who thinks that this chef isn't brilliant in my opinion knows nothing at all about food. Her recipes are yum and packed with flavour. I just love her. GO GIRL!!!
