Anna Gare’s passion for cooking began when she could reach the top of the kitchen bench. At the age of eight-and-a-half she took charge of her school canteen one day a week, providing a three course meal for a dollar.
When she was 12 and three quarters, desperately wanting to be 13, she formed an all girl band with her sister and two friends called the “Jam Tarts”. For ten years the Jam Tarts were a successful touring and recording band within Australia and acclaimed at international music festivals.
While Anna was in the Jam Tarts, she supplemented her rock and roll lifestyle with cooking, where she honed her talents in various restaurants around Australia.
After a decade of rock and roll, it was time for a change. Her life had always revolved around food and delighting others with her gastronomical gift, so she decided to start charging for her efforts and formed a small catering business. Today Deluxe Catering with food by Anna Gare is one of Perth’s most successful and innovative Catering Companies. The food created in the Deluxe kitchen not only leaves an impression, but often steals the show.
Anna also began working in Television. She worked on ABC’s Consuming Passions as Ian Parmenter’s right hand assistant, “preparing the dish he had prepared earlier”.
Following her TV experience with Ian, Anna went on to presenting her own cooking segment on magazine chat show called Perth at Five. The program was shot live and ran weeknights for four months. Anna has also presented a documentary on Fremantle, segments on Today Tonight and cooking segments with Perth DIY show Nuts and Bolts. Anna also featured in and narrated a five-part series, Chefs Christmas, for The LifeStyle Channel. The series features ten of Australia’s hottest chefs who invite viewers into their homes to share their festive entertaining secrets.
Last year Anna co-starred with chefs Ben O’Donoghue and Darren Simpson in The Best in Australia on The LifeStyle Channel. Filmed in her family home in Fremantle, WA, the program was incredibly well received and Anna has just finished shooting the second series which will premiere on The LifeStyle Channel in August.
Hi Anna, just wanted to share a little laugh I had at a passing comment you made on The Best series. There was a bit of a theme running through a particular episode with Indigenous food, to which you responded 'I don't know any Aboriginal/Indigenous people', or something along those lines. You do realise there were 3 of us 'indigenous' kids at JC? I actually sat behind you in english class for a couple of years lol. If you wanted some indigenous recipes I wouldve been happy to share some of my nanna's old roo and marron recipes.
Anna i love your clothes as well as your recipes, both equally. Where do you get your lovely clothes? The food I can work out!!!!
Hi Anna I don't know if you remember me,when you came to Sdney with the Jam Tarys and Nansing Quartet, some of you stayed with my partner Peter Bartlett, our flatmate Graham Filmer and myself in Potts Point.Jeremy was a Friend of Graham's.On our wedding day we recieved a card from you all, wishing us well. Peter and i would love to catch up with everyone, your parents,Jeremy and Lucky. My number is 0421668148. Cheers Vicki
Hi Anna, made your chicken pistachio terrine. WOW, absolutely beautiful, and such a hit with my friends. Many thanks.
Hi Anna - I have personally been a fan of yours since The Best shows on Foxtel - this appeal is a long shot but for a very good cause so thought we would ask. Good Samaritan Industries is a registered WA charity that had for 52 years provided meaningful paid employment for people with disabilities. 3 Dec each year is International Day of people with a Disability (IDD)we celebrate this year on 2 Dec and we are looking for a celebrity to make it an extra special day. We have a mini basket ball court on site at Canning Vale and we have a sausage sizzle. So ... what would be the chances of Luke Longley coming along on the day for just half an hour or so AND maybe you join him and make it our best sizzle ever ??? ... Look forward to your response - Regards, Ann
just love your happy times and fun in the kitchen
i watch your in masterchef . and you are awesome !

Hi Anna, just saw (yesterday) your Masterclass at the MF&W festival - I thought you outshone Nigella for pure entertainment, and we'll be making one of your tarts tonight! You can talk & cook at the same time, without a script, and we loved you. Cheers, Kylie

Hi Anna, I have been a fan of yours for a long time. I was recently informed that you were related to the Walker Family. The Victorian connection to the family have been life long friends of my parents. My mum and dad visit me in Perth annually and Dad has been impressed with my interpretations of some of your receipes. I have been in WA for five years now and I would love to be able to by some of the produce that you use on your shows. Items like quail, some cheeses and especially the beef and the seafood. I don't know if it because I am so busy but I just don't seem to find the quality of the produce that I see you and your collegues using. Keep the good times coming!
Hi Anna. I was watching a replay on fox for the 'tapas' dish. You used a smoked octupus that you said you purchased from your local deli. Can you please advise which deli this is and where we could puchase some? Thanks.
Hi Anna, we were in Fremantle recently (travelled from Brisbane for a family holiday) and saw you at the Fremantle markets. My 12 year old daughter was too shy to come and say hello despite our assurances that you wouldn't mind! Unfortunately when she'd plucked up the courage you were gone. It is something I am sure she will regret - she loves watching you on Best of Australia and Junior Masterchef. She's my right hand in the kitchen which like me she feels is the best place in our home! Thank you for your inspiration. Merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2011.
Anna is up for a Logie for Quickies in my kitchen. Go to this site and you can vote for her: http://surveys.asteroid.com.au/bvbin/bvgate.exe?noj=1&sid=916654
Anna you have the best tv face we have seen Peter&Annette
Took your advice and took friends to 'The Harvest' restaurant in N.Fremantle on Sunday for lunch. We all 4 agreed it was very poor in menu choice and quality and standard. What were you thinking when you recommended this?
Love your program, it's great
how do you come up with so many recepies? how do you get so many cook books?
Hi Anna I'm trying to find your recipe for Seared sesame salmon on pickled ginger and wasabi slaw. Its from series 1 episode 7 I think and it looked so delicous that I would really like to try it.
Most of the recipes from The Best can be found at wwwlifestylechannel.com.au Search The Best in Australia and click on the recipes button. Good luck
Anna you are a very refreshing scent to the culinary world. Every recipe i have made of yours has turned out BEAUTIFUL!

Anna, approx 2years ago i made your beautifull 'Potato, caramelised leek & wilted spinach terrine with dill creme fraiche' that i had watched you make on your T.V show, it was awesome, my whole family loved it! I lost the recipe, but today i have just found it again, it will be on my table this Christmas with our family surely set to enjoy it once again, thankyou for making something so yummy that even the kids seem to enjoy! I love it, Cheers Mel!
I love your program quickies it is great to watch
Hi Anna, Your Great and i absolutely love your cooking! Your also a really great judge on junior Masterchef!!! Keep up the great cooking Isabella xoxox :)
Anna, thank you, thank you, thank you. Had 10 girlfriends over for lunch the other day and your food in Quickies inspired me immensely. I made the Aromatic Pumpkin Soup, Leek Tarte Tatin with Goats cheese & smashed olives and the Arabic Spiced Lamb, Roasted Baby Beets (which I roasted with the sweet potato & not boiled) & Persian Fetta Salad. My girlfriend who is a dab hand in the dessert dept made the perfect Hazlenut Rum Torte to go with it. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The Spiced Lamb salad will now become a regular along with the Leek Tarte Tatin. Just sensational. YUM.
Hi Everyone. There is a restaurante in Cronulla, Sydney, which serves the most delicious 'sticky banana pudding' moist and amazing. Does anyone have this recipe?
love anna gare wish she had a cookbook
Love the show Anna, some fantastic recipes!
But please get rid of that super daggy intro to the show, it makes me feel as if I'm watching something from the 50's!!
This is one of my fav shows. Just like being in the kitchen with friends, chatting & cooking. The recipes are easy and great to serve - even my kids have enjoyed them. Just what every busy mom needs - a "Quickie in the Kitchen"!!!!!
Great show!. I just love Anna's easy going way with cooking. The recipes are so 'makeable' (if that is a word :) Truly inspiring! Also pleased to read Anna will be a judge with Junior Masterchef. I am sure that her charming ways will bring out the best in the kids competing!
Anna if you ever read this... you are a legend! There has never been a single program where I havent wanted to make at least one of your recipes. The festive fruit cake was awsome. Made it with white choc buttons as I didn't have dark. Came out perfect the v. first time. Love your work X.
i love all your shows i watch them when ever they r on u r so interesting to see on tv
Love your 'Quickies in the kitchen' episodes. wondering if i could get the receipe for Russell Blaikie's Leftover Veggie Pakoras. Trying to get my kids to eat more veggies and they looked fantastic. Thnx
Russell's Vegie Pakoras with quick Raita. Makes about 40 pakoras You’ll need 1 kilo of mixed veggies – pretty much anything you have in the fridge will do: Russell used 180 grams cabbage 240 grams cauliflower 140 grams zucchini 100 grams carrot 120 grams mushrooms 100 grams onion 1 or 2 cloves garlic; chopped 1 head corn (remove the kernels, you’ll end up with about 120 grams) keep these kernels separate…. And the rest: 10 grams salt 1 flat teaspoon ground turmeric 1 heaped teaspoon garam masala _ teaspoon ground chilli powder (to your taste) 150 ml water 250 grams chick pea flour (besan) Vegetable oil for frying Method Chop all of the veggies (except for the corn) into large dice and place into bowl of food processor (keep the corn kernels aside). Add all of the spices, chick pea flour and water. Whizz to a coarse, chunky paste…being careful not to over-process. Add corn and stir through. Heat oil in large frypan over medium flame. Drop table spoons of the mix into the hot oil and press down a little to make into flat ‘cakes’, cooking until they are deep golden brown (about 11/2 -2 minutes), flip over carefully and cook on the other side till brown. Remove and drain on kitchen paper towel, keeping the ‘pakkie’s’ warm in the oven until they are all cooked….serve with quick raita. . Quick Raita 1 Lebanese cucumber A hand full of Fresh mint 300 grams Natural pot-set yoghurt Method Wash the cucumber and run it through a coarse grater into a bowl. Wash and then finely shave the mint with a sharp knife, add to the bowl together with the yoghurt and stir well to combine. Enjoy MLS
Very Tasty recipes Anna

Great to see you back again with the fabulous "Quickies in My Kitchen" show. I try & watch it both on Lifestyle 1 and again on Lifestyle 2. Apart from the awesome food it's a great local program with well known West Aussies!! Keep it coming!!
Loving your show. You make what sounds impossible possible!
I found your show enjoyable and hilarous. I can't wait to try out your Balinese Chicken Thighs recipe. Wishing you good luck on your following shows.
Really enjoyed your new show, especially the chocolate cake! Good work too, chatting with Fiona Wood, found out some insightful things about her and her work. Looking forward to more. Well done.
I saw my first episode of Quickies in My Kitchen tonight and I LOVED it! Congrats on a wonderful show, looking forward to watching the rest of the series and hope there are many more to follow!

I agree with George67, potato recipe is simply gorgeous. Anna, you made this recipe along with another vegetable terrine in a large rounded pyrex dish with baked tomatoes, aubergines, spanish onions etc. You have yet to feature this recipe with your list of most recent and I cannot recall its title name. I would love the opportunity to make this also.
happy to say that the receipes I have ried have all worked out beautifully. Mums can cook, especially when its from the heart
The chicken and pistachio terrine is to die for. I have made it so many times but will not divulge the recipe. The red pepper relish is a real hit as well. I make it just to serve with cold meats, yum. Your recipes are the best Anna and the reason I watch the best in Australia
anna i love you dimples
show me your potato salad receipe
just wanting your receipe with the christmas salad with the caramalised leeks
All 3 of you are great, but kick the boys to the kerb cause it seems that just about everyl chef on tele is a man, and thats not fair. PS: I have to make that torte for my girlfriends this weekend, it looks amazing
I would also like the recipe for the zucchini, capsicum and red onion 'make the day before ' salad
I tried the butterfly lamb. sensational. I also think you are the best of the 3.
You are a classic to watch and an amazing cook Anna... love to learn from you!!!
Most of Anna's recipes are sourced elsewhere. It would be great to see her actually 'create' something herself instead of continually ripping off everyone else's ideas!!
sShe is not a proper chef, so she can't create her own culinary delights. pity though because she makes a good parrot. keep up the good work. maybe I'll do the same and become a famous tv cook lol
Orange kettle came from Kitchewarehousedirect.
Anna, my wife loves your food as well as your stove top kettle, could you tell me what brand it is as I would like to surprise her with one.
Mad about your food Anna. When will you publish a cook book? and when will the series The Best in Australia go on sale.
Anna i love the recipes& the tv show,Shana

Have to say BIA has taken over as our preferred cooking show at home! Keep up the great work. BTW loved your black/red/white dress in recent episode, hubby did too ;)
Hey Anna. I have to admit I'm having withdrawals since the last season of The Best In Australia finished. I NEED MORE! LOL. Will there be a new series any time soon? I miss you guys.

I love the way you present your food. Keeping my fingers crossed that you will decide to host your own cooking classes.x I have recorded your segment on the Chef's Christmas Edition and would like to know how I can display the strawberries, marshmallows and nougat just like you have done for your Christmas Table, it will be for my daughter's 21st birthday. I have tried to source a polysterene ball but cannot find one large enough - can you help me.
anna you are gorgeous. real natural beauty and your cooking is ok too :)

My favourite chef. If I could have a chef to cook for me it would be Anna. Cheers.
thanks Anna for your refreshing, happy approach to cooking - you make it all look like fun. Dont ever change a thing - you have certainly found the recipe for the perfect way to cook. Love the show and you cooking companions are a delight to watch as well.

totally agree! Her christmas vegie terrine is excellent too and what a wow factor. Definately bring out a cook book and if I lived in Adelaide I'd be joining you in those cooking classes.
What more can I say.."You're a winner"! and I love your cooking. Why don't you have a restaurant in Perth.
What more can I say.."You're a winner"! and I love your cooking.
Anna you're awesome, i love your style. i want to eat it all!!!!!!
the boys in the show are pretty good and so they should be as they are the pro's. Anna's cooking is what as home cooks want to be.
i love yur recipes anna thayre awesome i watch the show wheneva i get a chance!! lolz
just great & very tasty
Anna you are so much better than those other boys. I started watching Best in Australia for the recipies but then i just had to watch to see how you would deal with thier "better than you" attitude! I think in the end we all know that girls are better in the kitchen ....... don't you think?!
Hahhaha Spoken like a true feminist (Gay). I Don't disagree when u mentioned anna is good in kitchen she's very lively i can oly imagine if she wuld be good in bed as well !!!
I don't agree!! Anna & Ben gang up on Darren and I think if they're food is so fab, that there isn't any need. When he [Darren] was far ahead of you both last season, you seemed to both get your backs up and have been at him ever since.Very un-Australian!! Let the recipes speak for themselves and leave the poor bloke alone!!!
I totally agree, although sometimes ben has some good recipes,i love Best in australia,it's fun to watch i women compete with the boys, hehe
wonderful
Hi Anna, can you employ me in your kitchen as your "prepared before hand"? I lived in the rectory in North Freo. Em Tchan (0432503312)
I enjoy Best in Australia and especially like watching Anna hold her own in the kitchen with the boys.
