Love the idea of dumplings washed down with a glass of white or red? We sample the New Shanghai's delicious Wine & Dumpling Dinner.
Usually when we head to our favourite yum cha haunt to feast on dumplings, we like to devour our meal alongside an ice cold beer.
So when we heard about New Shanghai’s Wine and Dumpling Dinner, we admit to being rather excited about this tasty new pairing. Wine and dumplings - what’s not to love?
On offer at their Chatswood Chase and Charlestown restaurants from 6pm each night, the dinner brings together six courses of delicious Shanghai-style cuisine.
This includes New Shanghai's famous crispy, soupy 'Pan Fried Pork Buns’, and the tender soy sauce braised pork belly. Simply divine!
Each course has been matched with a wine from New Shanghai’s brand new wine list, hand picked to perfectly complement the flavour of each dish. Be warned though – you had better bring your appetite and ideally, leave your car at home!
Kicking off the menu is a Mix Cold Dish starter of Shredded kelp with spice and vinegar dressing, chopped cucumber with garlic and Drunken Chicken - that’s been matched with a 2011 Leo Buring Clare Riesling.
Next up comes New Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (Steamed mini pork bun), plus crab meat and pork and vegetarian dumplings alongside a refreshing 2010 Angel Cove Marlborough Sav Blanc.
At this point, we were almost ready for dessert but still had 4 more courses to tuck into – and who were we to decline?
Along with a Shepherds purse and pork wonton tossed with sesame butter, red chilli oil and spice, were more delicious pan-fried dumplings, an irresistible prawn and tofu soup and the main event of braised pork belly and deep-fried chicken – matched with a Squealing Pig Otagao Pinot.
The dinner is a steal at just $65/head (which includes six courses with matching wines), and is available for a limited time - so don’t miss out!
