How to Make Sea Salt Water

» Brought to you by

Making your very own sea salt couldn’t be easier. Paul shows us how!

We’ve based our measurements on 4 litres of seawater, so depending on the size of your pots you may need to do the first step in batches.

Pour 4 litres of sea water in a pan or saucepan and keep an eye on it as it the water reduces. Once you’re down to about a quarter of the volume you started with pour the water into a baking tray, scraping out any remaining slurry from the pan and adding it to the salt & liquid in the tray. If you haven’t managed to do the whole 4 litres in this first step repeat this process until you’ve reduced all of the seawater.

Once you’re done put the baking tray in a medium oven, keeping an eye on it until the water has evaporated. When that’s happened, remove the tray from the oven & let cool before breaking up the salt with a fork.

And there you have it, your very own sea salt!
