Best Hot Cross Buns in Melbourne

We reveal where the Easter Bunny is hiding Melbourne's best Hot Cross Buns!

When the time comes, here's where to go in Melbourne for the most delicious Hot Cross Bun.

1. Babka

At $2, they’re the best deal around, soft and spongy, they also have a beautiful orange aroma. Lines flow out the door down Brunswick St over Easter for these buns so get YOUR buns there early!

2. La Madre Bakery

If you’re around Geelong, check out these famed artisans for their dense, chewy sourdough buns. Their Easter range also includes snap-fresh ginger Easter egg cookies. Best toasted, they’re hinted with cinnamon and dotted with juicy sultanas, raisins and currents. Delicious!

3. Phillippa’s

Phillipa Grogan opened her first bakery in Armadale in 1994 and two years later spread to Brighton, and they’re still using family recipes here! Fruit is plump but rare in Phillipa’s flat, spice infused buns and every bight is delectable.

4. Tatura Hot Bread

The drive is worth it for these buns which have been voted the best in Australia. Glenda and Jeff Alexander only charge a cheap $8 for 6 buns at their award-winning regional bakery.

5. Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses

Starting in 1901, these franchisers have a secret recipe for their buns: 58% fruit – (oops we gave it away!). We advise trying lemon butter on a toasted cinnamon bun or perhaps one of their premium choccy versions for those chocolate lovers. You’ll find FP all over Melbourne.
