Normally High Tea prices are focused at the upper class, but these newcomers are offering their selection of scones, sandwiches and sweets for an unheard of $20. The china is fine, the furniture antique and the decor positively charming so don’t think you are missing out on any of the decadence. Available Wednesday to Sunday.

Orignally an 18oos military post, the Barracks have more recently become known as one of Sydney’s more luxury function venues. The Tea Room itself offers classic three-tiered silver platters which come topped with a selection of sandwiches, savouries, scones and cakes, all served with a stunning harbour view. Who could ask for more?

4. The Victoria Room || Level 1, 235 Victoria St, Darlinghurst. Ph: (02) 9357 4488. thevictoriaroom.com
The Victoria Room offers one of Sydney’s best high teas. Take your seat in a high backed chair among the potted palms and nibble on dainty cucumber and chicken sandwiches. With decor that seems to have come straight out of the era of the British Raj, you couldn’t feel any more British. Served Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
5. Aki’s Indian || 6 Cowper Wharf Rd, Woolloomooloo. Ph: (02) 9332 4600. akisindian.com.au
And now for something completely different. Well not completely, Aki’s puts an Indian spin on the traditionally English affair. Expect fusion foods like chutney sandwiches and chocolate naan served with lassi or chai. Sounds exotically delectable! Available on the first Sunday of the month.
